Canon EOS 7D- Hardcore Durability Test

Photo contributed by: Robert S. Kho
We recently posted the long-discussed and possible specifications for reference of the rumored Canon EOS 7D Mark II (Click here for the article) as the successor "to-be" of the Canon EOS 7D. But before its official announcement (if there would be one), let's take a look on how durable is the Canon EOS 7D for extreme elements. This would be a great advantage if Canon will include this weather-resist feature to the Canon EOS 7D Mark II.

Accordingly, the Canon EOS 7D is constructed with the highest quality material such as its built with lightweight and rigid magnesium alloy according to Canon, the camera is built to resist water and dust. This feature may be advantageous over previous and/or entry-level models as it improved both the dust and moisture resistance.

Just recently, a video from the Petapixel which was shared by the editor of the Croatian photography blog Cahayabox gone viral as Croatian High School Grads pushed the Photojournalist Marko Lukunic into the frozen fountain destroying $18k of his gears.

Nonetheless, Kai W of the Digital Rev TV decided to put hardcore tests for the durability of the Canon EOS 7D. FYI, the Canon EOS 7D they "mistreated" was donated to them. Additionally, "do not try this at home", unless you are rich and have extra bucks to buy one if mishaps happen.

The tests are as follows:
- Throwing coffee at it
- Collision with a truck
- Drop the wheelchair and 7D from the top of the steps
- Hitting it with a soccer ball
- Froze in a block of ice rescued by bullets of air pellet gun
- Setting it on fire

Conclusion:
In the video provided by the Digital Rev TV, it seems that the Canon EOS 7D can withstand several conditions given different scenarios however this doesn't mean that the model is all the way resistant to each and every tests given. This may be applicable to similar conditions but it could also produce a different version. Nonetheless, the Canon EOS 7D is a great EOS model for serious photographers and semi-professionals by far.

You may repeat the tests provided by the Digital Rev TV on your own if you want. On the other hand,  pictures of the Canon EOS 7D owned by www.alexsukonkin.com and Ole Jorgen Lloden under Copyright below are good references for frozen durability test.
